Looks like this is a known problem on Notes preference UI and ST problem self

Looks like this is not instant messaging problem. "Use canonical name for instant messaging status lookup" options works OK.

This problem caused by 2 existing Notes bugs actually like below.
1. MCLI796DYW - Embedded Sametime Preferences panel shows empty entry by default
2. KUMA7EPJ62 - Unable to access sametime server community preference

Both the 2 bugs have not yet been fixed and need to reopen if we have customer issue in 8.5.
